Football is finally back… sort of!

Wednesday, the NFL released the full 256 game slate for the 2019 season. As a Philadelphia Eagles fan, I thought I would breakdown the Eagles schedule and predict the amount of wins and losses for the birds this season.

September:

The Eagles will begin their quest back to the Super Bowl in Philadelphia on September 8 when they host the Redskins at 1 Eastern Standard Time. The Skins should be one of the worst teams in the league this year, so Carson Wentz and crew should be able to take care of business week 1.

Week 2 has an interesting game on the docket. The Eagles will travel to Atlanta for a Sunday night game against the Falcons. The Eagles are undefeated against the Falcons under Coach Pederson, but they have all been in Philly, and the Falcons are a hard team to figure out this year. They could be a playoff team, or they could win six games. I’ll take the latter, and I think the Eagles go back home 2–0.

After the trip down to the ATL, the birds return home for a game against a Lions team that should be as good as the Redskins. Heading into week 4, the Eagles should be 3–0 when they reach Lambeau field on a Thursday night against the Packers. The Eagles have never beat Aaron Rodgers, and I think that streak continues here unfortunately.

Record at the end of September: 3–1. First Place in NFC East.

Weird October:

The Eagles only home game in October is in week 5 when they face the Jets at home. The Jets are an improved team from a year ago, but the home-field advantage will help the Eagles get the W here. I just do not think Sam Darnold is capable at this stage of coming into the Linc and knocking the Eagles off.

Then, the Eagles have a three game roadtrip: @MIN, @DAL on a Sunday night and @BUF. The Vikings and the Eagles have a lot of hate for one another after the 2017 NFC Championship, and the end of last season when the Vikings helped the Eagles out by losing to the Bears when the Bears had nothing to play for to get the Eagles into the postseason. That being said, I don’t fear the Vikings.

The Cowboys are the biggest challenge to the Eagles in the NFC East, but I believe if the Eagles did not blow the Tennessee or Carolina games last year, the Eagles would be working on their third straight NFC East crown. If you compare the Eagles and Cowboys rosters, the Eagles have the advantage in quarterback, pass catchers, both lines and secondary, whereas the Cowboys only have the advantage at running back and linebacker. On a Sunday night in Dallas, the Eagles make Cowboys fans worldwide upset and beat the brakes off them.

As for the week 8 game in Buffalo, I think that’s a game the Eagles could actually lose. They would be coming off three straight wins and will be playing their third straight road game. That’s hard for anyone to win three straight NFL games on the road. I’m gonna say Buffalo pulls off the upset.

Record at the end of October: 3–1.

Record so far: 6–2. First Place in NFC East.

Hard November:

November might as well be renamed to hardvember for the birds. In week 9, it’s a rematch of the Wild Card with the Bears. Then in week 11 after the bye, it’s a rematch of the Super Bowl with the Patriots, and they end the month on a Sunday night against the Seahawks. If there’s good news for the birds, it’s that all these games are at home and winnable.

The Bears are going to digress in my opinion this season. I do not think Mitch Trubisky is a franchise signal caller, and they have a first-place schedule compared to a last-place schedule a year ago. The Eagles have made moves like Desean Jackson and Malik Jackson that clearly make them better than Chicago.

New England is always tough. Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time, and Bill Belichick is the greatest coach of all time, but Doug Pederson with a backup quarterback out dueled them to win the Eagles their first ever Super Bowl in franchise history two years ago. This game is in Philly, but I just have a feeling Brady with revenge on his mind will be too much for the Eagles to handle especially if they come out sluggish after the bye.

Russell Wilson has always dominated the Eagles, and that scares me for this game, but it is at home on a Sunday night, the Eagles have the better team and Seattle will be traveling from the west to the east coast. The Eagles should finish off this brutal month over .500, but all three of these games could go either way.

Record at the end of November: 2–1.

Record so far: 8–3. First Place in NFC East.

Easy December:

The Eagles kick off December by taking a trip down to Miami. Miami should be giving in at this point, and I’m not worried about the Eagles having a weather culture shock down there because the Eagles have gone to LA twice the last two years and beat the Rams late in the year.

Then, the Eagles end their season with four division games: NYG on Monday Night Football, @WAS, DAL at 4:25 and @NYG. While division games are always tough, the Giants and Redskins are rebuilding, and the Eagles should beat Dallas in their home finale for reasons talked about in week 7.

If my predictions are correct, the Eagles will go the following:

13–3. First Place in NFC East. No. 1 seed in the NFC.

7–1 at home. 6–2 on the road.

6–0 against division. 3–1 against NFC North. 2–2 against AFC East. 2–0 against Falcons and Seahawks.
